Wax Revolution, the store located in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco, Mexico City, recently launched their second space, with the goal of setting a new standard on what they regard as “artistry in hair removal”. “The site of the salon is in a semi basement of what used to be part of the parking of a refurbished building from the 50s. ROW Studio spearheaded the project, their “first challenge was to give notoriety to an otherwise invisible space.” The solution turned out to be a “faceted structure made from a sequence of black steel frames descending from the street to the salon in a similar fashion to a subway entrance thus making the site evident to the enormous traffic of people strolling and driving by.”

Face of Evil.

Carlos Mate’s ‘The Flowers of Evil’ produced for Milan Design Week, was created as a collection to display people’s darker sides in a way that can be beautiful and attractive too.

He cites Rimbaud’s poem “A Season in Hell” as his inspiration. Here’s a quote from that poem to give you a flavour; “I have called for plagues, to suffocate in sand and blood. Unhappiness has been my god.”

And later “…dear Satan, don’t look so annoyed, I beg you! And while waiting for a few belated cowardices, since you value in a writer all lack of descriptive or didactic flair, I pass you these few foul pages from the diary of a Damned Soul.” The last line is telling as Carlos also says the pieces he created are a “catalogue of feelings or a pagan diary”.

Inspired by the surrounding mountain range in Nanshan, the newly designed Chongqing Mountain & City Sales Office has come to life.

“The interior architecture of the office, designed by One Plus Partnership, has its valleys and its peaks. The space is fitted with an abstract version of a mountain, by connecting triangular grey marble faces to one another. The “mountain range” is central in the office, and custom built angular bronze desks are randomly scattered around architectural element. A field of tube lighting drapes down from the ceilings creating an aesthetic of a rain shower pounding down on the rocks”.

Produced by Taiwanese bike manufacturers DK city, the ‘db revO‘ wheel converts an ordinary bicycle to an electric bike simply by replacing the front wheel.

Produced in 20-inch and 26-inch models, ‘db revO’ fits a range of bicycles, featuring a 24V lithium battery and DC motor. current colour options planned for production include white, red, magenta, orange, yellow, green, blue, and gray.

The ‘Eco-Perch’ is a quick and easy self-installed luxury tree house created by East Sussex based architecture and construction firm Blue Forest.

“Assembled with natural materials, the structure may be implemented within 5 days, minimally impacting the landscape with adequate site preparation beforehand. Contained within a 6 meter by 8 meter footprint, the combined kitchen, dining, living area and bedroom may comfortably accommodate four people. wrapped with a continuous roof surface, its oval sectional geometry visually connects with the outdoor scenery through windows and a veranda formed with a deep eave.

If placed beyond your personal garden, owners may acquire planning permissions to install the small dwelling which is expected to outlive 15 years. linking to existing infrastructure is ideal although an on-site septic tank may be used. a variety of off-grid and renewable energy sources allow for complete independence. the interior may be redesigned and retrofitted to serve as an office, studio or classroom”.

“The hypnotic hand-cut paper sculptural works, kaleidoscopic videos and saturated murals incorporate echoing patterns and mathematical concepts which create an infinite-like quality to her artwork”.

In commemoration of 111 years of electrical engineering in Freiburg, Germany, Alexander Bürkle (a technology company), turned into an art installation combining video, paint, and beams of light creating a surreal and futuristic interactive environment.

The installation by Chezweitz & Roseapple in collaboration with kubix and Stefan Hurtig was titled Freude auf Morgen and invited visitors to walk through the red fluorescent tunnels of light and ponder time and technology. We think it’s beyond cool.

The city of San Pedro in Nuevo León, Mexico is bang on trend with the ‘revolutionary design’ term with some of its local stores that integrate conceptual design and food culture.

The popular Catalina Fernández bakery is celebrated for its progressive perception of a pastry shop whilst sustaining traditional recipes. Under the direction of Anagrama, which is the brand agency to introduce in-store design concepts and brand development strategies, the Catalina Fernández bakery experience will never look the same again. For a start,Anagrama has ensured for a more sophisticated twist to the brand’s identity and a sans serif typeface logo (CF) was thereby introduced. Chic packaging boxes and bags complete with golden foil were printed and Anagrama also oversaw massive changes in the store’s interiors”.

One of the biggest trends at last year’s ‘Salone del mobile’ was the use of geometrical patterns on textures and fabrics.

Triangles in particular were notable in many different prototypes of products and furniture’s.

Now more of them are starting to hit the marked, like the first collection of textile designs “Geo” from designer Mika Barr, which resemble Origami paper folding techniques.

Dutch design organisation produced this film, Premsela for their symposium ‘Me Craft/You Industry’ in January.

Welsh designer Kieren Jones explains how he constructed a miniature factory to transform the uneaten parts of a chicken into a gold leather flying jacket and a bone china eggcup and spoon.
